August favourites

Since it is the end of August (WHERE did time go is my question??), I thought I would do a favourites post and share what have been the top 5 things I have reached for this month. These vary in category so they might seem a little random but its always fun to do these across categories. This isn’t necessarily a review of each thing but more my feelings about them and how I have used them this month in my life. So, here we go!

top 5 favourites

1. Macro mixes brownie butter drizzle

I cannot stress enough how much I love this product. Not only is it from one of my favourite local brands, Macro Mixes, but it is also insanely tasty. I had my reservations due to the fact that there is hardly any sugar in it (1.2g/30g serving) and it was a more protein based drizzle. Well, safe to say I was blown away and became instantly obsessed. I literally use this for anything and everything! My favourite is using it in a Macro Mixes bowl cake with some yoghurt and berries. I also put it on some sourdough toast and pour some over my oats. I dip strawberries into the drizzle, I put it on the sugar free chocolate from MM for something sweet and sometimes, I just have a spoonful of plain brownie drizz. I highly recommend this product if you are into nut butters and those kind of things. It isn’t overbearingly sweet but it also isn’t too dry/bitter. I don’t know how they did it but it is perfection in a jar. Also, I love supporting local brands so this is another win.

2. Esjay sports tights

I have always struggled to find running/workout tights that fit properly. Most tights fit my legs but are too big around my waist and then fall down when I run. I also struggle to find tights that are not see through when you squat or stretch. Then a friend of mine recommended the local brand Esjay and I ordered myself a pair of their plain black workout tights. Honestly, I want to order 5 more.

The tights are stretchy yet tight enough to stay in place. The material is thick enough to be squat proof but also lightweight. There are these silicon-like bands at the waist which stop the tights from rolling down. Most importantly, I love the design of these tights. They are plain and simple with a small ‘e’ stitched onto the side of the leg which is down my aesthetic alley. The brand itself is great as they often partner with local charities for collections. I also enjoy the fact that you support local when you purchase from them. For any of you who work out, or run or even just for walking – I highly recommend you check out Esjay. They have a wide range of styles and patterns as well. I was seriously impressed with these.

3. Clinique Dramatically different moisturizer

As someone with dry skin, I am always on the hunt for a good face moisturizer. I had heard good things about the Clinqiue Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + and thought I would give it a try.

I was not disappointed. This has quickly become my favourite part of my skin care routine. It is so soft on the skin, leaves your skin feeling moisturized and fresh and also, a little goes a long way. I only put a very small amount on and it does the job perfectly. It isn’t heavily scented and you feel the moisture the whole day. I haven’t had any dry flaky skin since starting use of this. It is a little on the pricey side, but like I said, a little really goes a long way.

4. makeup revolution x sophx highlighter palette

This isn’t a new product for me or anything, but I found this month I was reaching for it more and more every time I did my makeup. I find it such a versatile palette. You get a range of highlighter shades that can be used for more than one thing. I really enjoy using the pink shades as a blush for when I am going for that dewy face look. The gold shades work really well as an eye shadow for those natural glam days and the light shades work amazingly for an inner corner highlight. Obviously, the powders are amazing highlighters as well. Super easy to blend and very pigmented. You don’t need to apply a lot to glow! What I like most is that this palette has so many uses and also is an affordable option. Definitely worth checking out to add to your makeup collection!

5. Taylor swift folklore album

This might seem like a random addition but honestly, this album has been on repeat pretty much this whole month. I have always been a huge Taylor fan and in my eyes, nothing was going to ever top her Red album, but Folklore is quickly becoming my favourite album of hers.

For me, as someone who listens to music more for the lyrics than the melody, this album was that much more meaningful. Her songwriting skills are really showcased and even if you aren’t a fan, you cannot say that Taylor doesn’t write good lyrics. The album is also more on the alternative/indie music side which is my favourite genre. I listen to this album when I read, when I run, when I am baking and pretty much all day everyday if I am honest. The songs are just so beautiful and make me feel at peace. Whether you want to cry or laugh this album does it all. It will have you in your feels and to me, that is the point of music. To make us feel something.

My top three songs (at the moment, it varies each time I listen to the album) are: exile, august and my tears ricochet.

goodbye august

So comes the end of another month. Where has 2020 gone? Time is going by so quickly and my head is still processing May! Anyone else?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading about my favourite things of the month. Sometimes it really is the small things that make life better. Should this be a monthly series? Let me know in the comments below.

Wishing you a happy month end!

All the love, Jay
